£1m marina approved for Whitby
Scarborough council has given the go ahead to a marina development at Whitby Upper Harbour.
The new facilities will cost £1 million and will be developed by Whitby town council in collaboration with residents and local businesses.
After Scarborough council granted planning permission, the next stage in the scheme is to appoint contractors for the project.
Once they have been chosen, development of the building design will begin, with work on features such as building materials and the possibility of involving community artwork in the scheme.
Councillor Herbert Tindall, the portfolio holder for harbours, is looking forward to the project.
“This is a very exciting time for Whitby and the harbour, when implemented, will put the town at the forefront of marina facilities and will build upon the growing reputation for quality and service delivery,” he said.
Prior to planning, consultation exercises were broadly positive, with 87 per cent of respondents showing support for the marina.
